Batphone is an innovative research tool designed to ascertain one’s location within indoor environments. It serves as an alternative to conventional localization methods such as GPS and iBeacon. The application operates by utilizing the microphone to capture the ambient sound characteristics of a room, creating distinctive acoustic fingerprints that facilitate the recognition of previously tagged rooms upon re-entry.

In addition to its primary functionality, Batphone provides comparative positioning data derived from Location Services, which utilizes signals from GPS satellites, Wi-Fi networks, and cellular base stations to determine geographic coordinates. Our experiments indicate that Batphone's acoustic localization method demonstrates greater accuracy than traditional radio-based approaches.
